Santa Rosa National Park combines an appreciation for history and nature. The park is located within the Santa Elena Peninsula in north-western section of Guanacaste. Initially it was created as a shrine to preserve the significance of a battle that could have resulted in the enslavement of the Costa Rican people. But creating this park also saved hundreds of species of flora and fauna, and their ecosystem that would otherwise have become extinct or endangered. It is home to 10 different habitats including mangroves, swamps and evergreen and dry forests. You will be visiting an old hacienda and the stonewall corrals displaying remnants of the battle. Along the trails, search for monkeys, birds, sloths and more. Swim in and visit Costa Rica's foremost surfing beach at picturesque, Witches Rock (Roca Bruja). Santa Rosa National Park contains 2% of the world's biodiversity.
From Blue River Resort & Hot Springs the drive to Santa Rosa is only 45 minutes. We'll be spending 2 hours inside the park. Then, during the dry season (and personal preference) we'll 4x4 to Witches Rock, a surfer's paradise for a nature walk and swim. In the town of Cuajiniquil enjoy a fresh seafood lunch. We'll also visit Bahía Junquillal for more nature viewing. Then we'll take a short drive to a special spot near La Cruz to see one of the most beautiful sunsets. Then it's back to Blue River Resort & Hot Springs in time for dinner.
