Visit the ancestors of the Chorotegas, who were part of the Mesoamerican society that were most advanced Pre-Columbians in the Americas. The Chorotegas dominated from Lake Nicaragua to the Nicoya Peninsula. We visit Guatil, a small village located outside Santa Cruz, the primary center of Costa Rica folklore. Learning about theses peoples’ history and their clay creations is an exciting hands-on experience. Their traditions and their ancestral clay making will be demonstrated. These collector’s pieces are created in all shapes and sizes using the earth’s natural colors before being fired in giant wood-burning ovens. Afterward visit Santa Cruz a city that dates back to 1820 for a special lunch, to see sculptures of native immigrants and an original church tower, before returning.
