Tour Description – Set out on horseback like a Sabanero (Costa Rica cowboy) / come by safari truck / or your vehicle (at your option). Only this side of the volcano, Rincon de la Vieja, is in the jungle rainforest and has the breathtaking blue volcanic river, Penjamo. The Grand Waterfalls are a site to behold.
You’ll take a step back into time, riding past locals, who are also on horse. View the homes, chickens and cows to witness a simple, wholesome way of life, living off the land. Travel along dirt roads, through pastures and plantations. At our destination, disembark at the gorgeous Grand Waterfalls for a well earned dip in the pools and for exploration.
Afterward, its time to commence your hike into lush rainforest parkland, along paths leading to more swimming opportunities, past many cascading waterfalls, a natural waterslide and finally, to the unique and breathtaking, blue volcanic river, Rio Penjamo.
Take dips into a series of incomparable waterfalls. See first-hand, where minerals leach through the river bottom and into the water, causing the water color to turn blue. While hiking, look out for colorful highland birds which are difficult to see elsewhere.
Upon exiting the park, your horses will be waiting, readied for the ride back to Blue River Resort & Hot Springs.
> Our Location: View Blue River Resort & Hot Springs on Google Maps which is located 60 kilometers from Liberia, Guancaste at the base Rincon de la Vieja volcano national park, in the mountain rainforest.
