More About the Location
Blue River Resort & Hot Springs is about an hour by car or shuttle from Liberia, Costa Rica through the lush cool green rainforest at the base of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park, along the north Caribbean side. The surroundings include panoramic views of the volcano, jungles, grand waterfalls and blue volcanic rivers. You'll fall in love with the authentic pueblos (villages) nearby and will enjoy easy access to the cities of Liberia and Upala, both of which are less than an hour drive away.
Costa Ricans (“Ticos”) and foreigners are now discovering real estate on the north side of Rincon de la Vieja National Park, a major draw for tourists.
For many years, the north side of the volcano has been tucked away from people. But with recent improvements to the road, the drive from Liberia to this hidden gem is only an hour long and full of scenic views along the way.
Leaving behind the dry hot beach weather of Liberia, the change in scenery is dramatic. You ascend into the fresh mountainous rainforest, and pass through volcanoes, jungles, grand waterfalls and blue volcanic rivers. The Caribbean side averages a comfortable 26 degrees Celsius (78 degrees Fahrenheit). The Caribbean side is lush rainforest and offers blue volcanic rivers and natural mineral "green" hot springs and many opportunities to swim. There is horseback riding and every other activity a nature lover can dream of.
Liberia, Costa Rica is both a major city and the gateway for the Guanacaste beach resorts and Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The beach resorts are west of Liberia, beginning with Playa Hermosa, a half hour away. Rincon de la Vieja is to the northeast.
The Liberia International Airport (aka Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport) is the second major hub for entering Costa Rica. From North America, direct flights include Miami, Fort Lauderdale, Houston Phoenix, Los Angeles, Vancouver & Toronto.
Another large city you may drive to/from is Upala, also, an hour away by car.
