About the North Side of Rincon de la Vieja

From Costa Rica’s international gateway, Liberia International Airport, as a starting point, the drive to Blue River Resort & Hot Springs is about 90 minutes by car or shuttle. However we’ll pick you up from most of the beach resorts Guanacaste and Liberia. There are signs along the side of the road to provide directions.Once you are heading north along the Pan American Highway you’ll need to take a right turn that is the turn-off for Quebrada Grande. From this point the drive becomes spectacular, as you’ll leave behind the dry hot savanah and beach weathter. The suroundings transform slowly to cooler, lush rainforest with views of mountain ranges on either side. Blue River Resort is on the north Carribean (north) side of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano National Park. Only the north side of Rincon de la Vieja has blue rivers, natural mineral hot springs and is in the rainforest. The surroundings also include panoramic views of the volcano, jungles and grand waterfalls.

Our Hot Springs and Our 5 Pools

Take pleasure swimming in five stunning pools surrounded by lush landscaping. Four pools are filled with hot springs, each with waterfalls, different in appearance and temperature. The hot springs fill the pools from the hot volcanic rock formations under the ground nearby that bubble-up in sink holes. These “emerald green” hot springs are all natural and have special mineral properties.
