Touring Volcanoes
For an authentic vacation in Costa Rica volcano tours are a must. Costa Rica’s volcanoes are among the most beautiful in the world and there are over 120 throughout the country! The volcanoes are contained in a system of national parks and protected areas that has become a playground for everyone to tour. Accommodations surround the park at every price level and luxury, from 5 star resorts, to rustic lodges and jungle camps. On offer are many Eco-adventure volcano tours, like zip lining tours, waterfall rappelling, horseback riding hiking, bird watching, tubing, and more. Soak in therapeutic hot springs and natural mud. There are many amazing volcanos to explore.

Touring with a guide takes hikers up the slopes through lush tropical rainforest on well-marked trails. Rainforests are home to several native species of monkeys, tapirs, sloths, pumas and many other colorful, exotic animals. One little known species living at high altitudes along the volcanoes summit is the ‘Bang Squirrel’; they can only been found in Costa Rica and Panama. Local guides will ensure you see it all.
The view from the crater, through the clouds, is spectacular. The dress code calls for warm clothing at this altitude.
Wild orchids bloom splendid colors like you have never seen before. Hundreds of species of lush green ferns drape the rainforest like a thick coat, a tropical setting on the lower slopes of the volcano.

Adventurous visitors enjoy volcano tours hiking inside national parks, each offering nature experiences, unique to that park or volcano. Zip-lining, canoeing and ‘white water rafting’ tours in volcano national parks, like Rincon de la Vieja, usually combine private and national parks, whilst overnighting in the jungle at the Blue River Resort and Hot Springs.
WARNING– Touring volcanoes are suspended; a necessary precaution whenever the volcano shows signs of instability.
